On graduating from art college, Eric Renner and Nancy Spencer of The Pinhole Resource in New Mexico invited Nilu Izadi to build her first Camera Obscura on their land. Nilu says it was spectacular living in the Gila hills for 6 months, walking down the valley to the site with Mable the dog and Jesus the emu to move each rock, twist every wire on the building’s frame, choose the apertures and apply the cement. Each part of the building process brought wonder to the space with the changing light, changing shapes, and changing interior space. The resulting installation displayed the surrounding 360 landscape on the entire interior of the building. It was the first time she saw colour with such intensity and infinite depth of field with such clarity.
